Mini-Winter Break!

Today was the first day we got back to school. From being stuck in a house with all of my sisters and parents, I was happy to be back in school. With my family and I living in the more rural part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan, the ice on the roads weren't helping. Last Thursday, the district cancelled all after-school programs, games, and Saturday school. This was our first notice to say that basically school was out for the rest of the week. I can truthfully say that I was happy that we had a small break from school before our Christmas break. We were scheduled to have our first basketball pep-rally during first period. Pep-rallies in the morning is one thing that I absolutely do not like. I am not a morning person, so mixing in a pep-rally that's supposed to make us all happy and cheery doesn't mix well with me. So, my weekend went from a two-day weekend to a three-day weekend. My weekend turned into a five-day weekend when the "wonderful mini-vacation" turned into an "everlasting nightmare." I had to stay with my family. For FIVE days! The weekend is enough and even then I'm not with them much, that's probably because about half of the day I spent sleeping in my bed ;) Coming back to school made me so happy because not only did I get to see my friends, but I got to actually go outside. I hope that this ice and snow melts away before the beginning of next week.

Olympus Has Fallen

I watched Olympus Has Fallen with my mom and sisters. This movie made me very emotional, though most of the time it showed people getting shot multiple times. The movie was about former disgraced Presidential Guard Michael Banning ( Gerard Butler) saving President Asher (Aaron Eckhart) and his son Connor (Finley Jacobsen) months after the loss of the first lady. With this movie only being released in March, it had received a 6.4, based on a 1 to 10 scale. This movie shows some gruesome scenes with all the blood splatters from actors. Watching this movie reminded me of G.I Joe Retaliation. I know that both are completely, but if you look really close, they're a lot alike. I would say that this movie was a 5 out of 5 because it was really good, even though at some parts out was a little too visual and realistic. I can't wait until the next movie, London Has Fallen.

A Quest of Heroes

I just finished reading A Quest of Heroes by Morgan Rice. This was about Thor's journey from going to a poor herder to a greatly appreciated warrior in the king's army. There was a lot of things in this book that I liked. Thor had a lot of bravery, confidence, and goodwill in himself. He saved several people's lives. When his friend Erec was sparing and was almost killed, Thor had a lot of confidence and bravery to not only saved his life, but to interrupt a knights jostle. Thor always wanted to do the right thing. When a Legion boy named Elden was trapped and his friends wanted to leave him because he was rider, Thor was good enough to want to rescue him even though this same buy was bullying him earlier that day. This was a really good book to read. I would recommend this book to young adults and teens for all of the good morals and hardships Thor had to go through and how he gets through them. This book would be a 5 out of 5 because it was really good and had really great descriptive details.

Taken

My previous book that I read was Taken by Erin Bowman. It's about Gray Weathersby and his journey to find the truth about his life. Ever since the first people of Claysoot, there has been the Heist. The Heist takes every boy at the age of 18. Every year, groups of boys are taken from their mothers. When Gray's brother Blaine is taken from the Heist, Gray is lost without his brother. Gray suddenly finds a letter from his dead mother to his brother telling him that they are in fact twins. This would explain how they look exactly the same and are very close. Gray goes on a search, past the mysterious Wall enclosing them all, to find why he was saved. Along the way, Gray encounters different things. He finds out that Claysoot is in fact a testing subject. He also meets his father on the way. This book reminds me of the old proverb, curiosity killed the cat. Gray was so curious that in the end, it killed somebody. I would say that this book is a three out of five because it has some stupid parts in it. One dumb part was when Emma had decided that she should go with Gray over the wall. She said, "...There's nothing for me back there anymore, Gray. The two things I want, answers and you, are now on this side of the Wall." This, to me, just screams out stupidity. Even though it could be stupid at some parts, I would recommend this book to someone who likes a book with more stupidity than action.

Guitar Notes

I just read Guitar Notes by Mary Amato. The book was about Lyla Marks and Tripp Broody's lives intersecting. Lyla Marks if the perfect girl. She has perfect grades, perfect attendance, perfect posture, perfect best friend, perfect class president, and perfect at the cello. Tripp Broody is just about opposite from her. He is failing in almost every class, has no friends, and he plays the guitar. Though they both are from two different worlds, they are alike in ways they never knew. Lyla's mom died in a plane crash, while Tripp's dad died from a brain aneurysm and they both have demanding parents. Throughout the book, Lyla and Tripp both write notes to each other about the situations in their lives. They slowly go from people you see everyday to friends that are almost inseparable. This book is truly one of the best books that I've read. It shows how peer pressure can go way out of hand and it can really hurt you. Lyla was "forced" to do all of these different things like play the cello and apply for orchestra auditions. She was "forced" to do these things, but was too nice and scared to say no. Tripp, on the other hand, goes through all of this pressure through his mom. She takes away his only prized possession guitar and signs him up for all different social groups. This book also shows how you shouldn't judge a person by the way they act or what they look like. Annie, Lyla's friend, had told Lyla herself the Tripp was a freak. That their lives shouldn't be mixed with his way of life. Annie showed that she was a judgemental person. This book would be a 5 out of 5 because it was a really good book and it had lots of good morals in it. I would recommend this book for teens and young adults.

The House of Hades

My recent book that I've read was The House of Hades by Rick Riordan. It's about Annabeth and Percy trying to survive Tartarus. While they are trying to survive that, Nico, the son of Hades, is leading the other five crewmen to the House of Hades where they will meet Percy and Annabeth. Throughout the whole book, each person goes through their own hardships and struggles. This is, so far, my favorite book out of Rick Riordan's book series The Heroes of Olympus. My favorite part of the book was when Leo was chasing after the two dwarfs that had taken his and Jason's metal belts and swords. Jason had gotten tied up, so Leo had to go after the dwarfs themselves. So, Leo had gotten some things at a Italian supermarket. He went after the dwarfs and when he got there, he ended up tricking the dwarfs and getting them to be on the gods side. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 because it was a really good book. Rick Riordan is one of my favorite authors, so it isn' t a surprise that this book is really good.

GenTx Week

This past week at school has been Generation Texas week. It's basically about college and career readiness. This whole week, all of the teachers at my school had to decorate their doors to represent the college they went to. I love this because we get to decorate, which I love to do, instead of reading for twenty minutes. On Wednesday, during your science period you had to go to the eighth grade computer lab and take this career and skills survey. On my career interests survey, my top five pathways were performing arts, journalism and broadcasting, marketing communications, visual arts, and governance. I do not life performing arts, marketing communications, and governance. The only job pathways that I would even consider would be the journalism and the visual arts pathways. My skills confidence survey had similar results. I got journalism and broadcasting, performing arts, professional support services, health informatics, and early childhood development and services. I don't like any of these except, of course, journalism and broadcasting. Tomorrow, there will be a poll of which teacher's doors is the best. I'm pretty for sure that it would be Ms. Pennington's door because hers had lights, a theme song on it, and is overall awesome.

Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013) PosterEarlier this week, my family and I went to the movies for my sister's birthday. We watched Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters. The movie is a sequel to Percy Jackson & The Lightning Theif. It was about Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson embarking on a quest to find the magical golden fleece that would save their camp. While doing this, they have to try and stop their old friend Luke to save Olympus and keep Kronos from rising. I think that the movie was good, but I would say that from a scale from one to ten, it would be a five. I would say it's a five because the movie didn't really follow through with the book and the acting wasn't really good. Though there is talk about a third movie.

UPDATE!!!

OH MY GOSH! Since the last time I've posted, I've been busy with homework! I forgot all about my blog and feel so bad. I haven't posted for almost a whole month. School has been really hard for me with all of the homework and having to work around my schedule. With basketball tryouts coming up, I've been working my butt off trying to get my school work done. After that, I have to start getting ready for Thanksgiving. Some family are coming over and I really need to clean my room. I can't wait till Thanksgiving Break!

Gravity

Gravity (2013) PosterThe first movie that we saw yesterday was called Gravity. Gravity is about medical engineer, Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock), and astronaut, Matt Kowalski (George Clooney), working together to survive an accident that involves them being stranded in space. This movie was one of the best movies that I've watched. I was so emotional in this because one I'm a girl and I just kind of get emotional in these really sad movies and two because I thought that at some parts it was just very sad. This movie was really good, but I think that it could have been better. Sandra Bullock did an amazing job being the main character, Ryan Stone. One of the most saddest parts is when Ryan is in the ISS space shuttle and she sees Matt (George Clooney). He tells her how to get to this Chinese satellite. What makes this scene sad is he is practically told her to not give up and that she was going to make it. From 1 to 10, 1 being horrible and 10 being awesome, I would rate this movie a 9 because the ending kind of sucked because we know that she was alive, but you didn't know if someone found her.

My Sunday

Yesterday, my dad took us to the mall to watch movies. We went to check the time of the first movie, then we went to walk around the mall. We went to a shoe store and my mom and sisters all tried on stilletos. Gracie was walking around in black five-inch stilettos. She's almost 3 feet, so adding five inches makes her look like a little giant. We went to Bath and Body Works next. I absolutely love their lotions and candles. Some smell so good that it makes you a little hungry. We tried on this sugar scrub and it felt great. I love their perfumes so much. My favorite one that I saw yesterday was this apple one. It smelt great. We spent so much time in there that we didn't get to go anywhere else before the movies.

My New Glasses!

This Friday, I finally got my new glasses. Last week, my parents and I spent a long time just picking two frames- one as my primary glasses and the other my back-up. I absolutely love my glasses. They are an antique bronze and has this filigree design on the sides. They look absolutely gorgeous. My second pair are black frames with a purple zebra print on the side. The first pair are metal and the second are plastic. I love both of my glasses. My only problem now is that I need a new hairstyle :(

Elysium

Yesterday, my dad took the family to the movie theatre. We got to watch Elysium. Elysium is about a Max (Matt Damon) who undergoes this mission to bring equality to these two planets, one of them being a polluted Earth and the other the luxurious Elysium. While doing this, Max reconnects with a childhood friend, Frey (Alice Braga). This is probably one of my favorite movies that I've watched this year. I would rate this movie a 9 out of 10. This movie would be a good movie for more older kids because it does include some language throughout the movie.

Athletics

Yesterday during athletics, the 8th and 7th grade B and C team volleyball players had a tournament. The 7th grade A team was left with us off season people. I, personally, love being in off season. We get to pretty much run every single day. The first day wasn't the easiest, but when you run for almost every single day, you get used to it and have a pace set for yourself. The coaches made both the off season and A team run a mile. Running a mile at my pace wasn't super hard. The only problem was that it was raining hard earlier, so the track was wet and it was lightly raining. It's not that I don't like the A team volleyball players, it's just that their all snobs and they think that they're better than us because they actually made one of the teams. All of the coaches had to leave, so they left us there with the boys coaches. Having the guy coaches watch us probably wasn't the best idea because they all were working with the football players. When they told us to start, the volleyball players barely made it to the 100m line before they started to walk. We started to yell at them because if we slacked off during the mile, we would have to do snakes on Monday. Snakes are probably one of the worst things you have to do. You have to do run from one side to the other side of the football field and do up-downs. They are, in other words, horrible. We continued to run, but that didn't stop us from hearing what they said. They were saying things like, "I heard the off season girls do this everyday, so of course they can run a mile." and "We on the A team, we don't have to run like this." In other words, they sounded like wimps because they couldn't run. I mean, if you can sprint a whole mile then that's great for you, but if you know that you can barely sprint around a single lap without passing out, then you shouldn't sprint. Nobody cares about how long it takes you to run a mile. The only thing that really matters is if you can run a mile without walking. That was the only thing that mattered. After we ran the mile, we had to walk the track and that wasn't a good idea to because we were all playing around and talking. Yesterday was probably my favorite day in athletics and I can't wait till the volleyball players have another tournament.

Gracie

Today, my little sister, Gracie, did one of the cutest things ever. My sisters, mom, and I were all sitting at the kitchen table doing our homework and just talking. I was working on my Texas History homework when Gracie said, "I love hot dogs!" It was one of the cutest things that I just had to take a video of it. She will say it to you only if you ask her what she loves. Below is the link to the video of her!

My Fantastic/Horrible Week (So Far)

These past two days have been fantastic for me. Yesterday in first period, we did absolutely nothing. We only had to review someone's Native American PowerPoint and then submit it to our teacher. In my career portals class, we only had to work on our "resume" and cover letter. Science was as boring as always. In journalism, we got to spend the whole entire period taking pictures of people dressed in red, white, and blue to honor 9/11. In language arts, all we had to do was peer edit our personal narratives and do our vocabulary words. Math is a wasted period. I mean, we never do anything in that class. Athletics was awesome. All we did was laps in the gym. Overall, that day was awesome. Today was just as good. It was picture day and we had to take our pictures during our social studies period. Thankfully, mine is my first period. By the time we got back to class, there was only like twenty minutes left. So, we got to watch a video honoring those who died twelve years ago on September 11th. Career portals, science, math, and language arts were pretty much the same. In journalism, a couple of my friends and I got to start our first story. It's about the honoring those who died on September 11 twelve years ago. After school, I was completely wore out. I got home, at my usual time, to only find that we were going to have this electrician come and install our new kitchen lights. That was bad for me because I had to work on four assignments. My day only got better and better when the electrician left my house. At nine-freaking-o'clock. That means he was here for about three hours. I never thought that was possible, but him and my dad were buddies making them talk and joke around. I am so tired. that I could literally pass out and not finish this post. Luckily, I'm not that wore out. I probably won't post till like Friday at the most. Hope my week will finish off just like it started. Peace!

World War Z

World War Z (2013) PosterLast night, my family and I went to the movies to go and watch World War Z. The movie is about how the virus is spreading across the world and is pretty much turning the people to zombies. Brad Pitt is the lead character in this movie and takes you on a journey of all the places that he goes to try and find a cure for the living people. I would rate this movie a 10 out of 10 because it has lots of action and is a perfect family film, only if you like to watch movies with zombies.

Journalism Class

Today in journalism class, we got assigned projects that we had to report on. I have to go to either the 7th grade football game or the 8th grade football game. I have to write about their scores and all that type of stuff. Since I don't know anything about football, I'm going to try to get my dad to help my with the statistics and all, but the rest of the work is going to be all mine. My school blog hasn't even been updated since May. I can't wait to actually start writing stories. I hope this is going to be as easy as this blog. The school blog is called Chisholm Trail Tribune and is on my blog list. I hope you all like my school blog. Peace!

Tough Day at School :(

Oh my gosh! Today was a very loooooong day. First period, all we did was work on this PowerPoint about a Indian tribe in Texas. Second period, was career portals and all we did was finish the rest of the things that we did yesterday. Third period, we actually had to take two quizzes; one was a safety quiz and the other was about force and motion. Fourth period, was journalism and we got to look at all of our blogs. The blogs are all on my blog list on the right column. Most of them barely have their first posts. We just started these blogs last week. Fifth/sixth period was language arts. For about the first hour, we spent that whole time trying to upload this personal narrative that we'd written on Monday. Sixth/seventh period was math. I absolutely hate that class. Everybody is so talkative. Sometimes, I just feel like yelling to everybody to shut up. The bad part about it is that not only is it a Pre-AP class, but the people that are talking all are flirting. It's just annoying to hear. Athletics, my eighth period, was awesome today. We ran half a mile, two times around the track/football field, in less than three minutes. Then, we went inside and ran about the rest of the mile because it felt like a hundred degrees outside. Today, I finally got to see the one person that I've been looking for the two weeks. My friend, Lily, and I got to sit in the very back of the bus. We were so happy because it was the coldest part of the whole entire bus. When I got home, I got to spend pretty much the whole entire time working on my Texas history homework. Curse you homework! Whoever came up with that idea should have thought more about their future descendants because we all hate homework. Hope you all have a blessed day! Peace!

My Baby Sister

My baby sister, Gracie, is one of the most adorable and annoying babies in the world. She looks so cute, but is EXACTLY like my dad. She likes to boss people around and get what she wants. Her favorite thing to do is either play dolls with my other sisters, Omega and Trinity, or watch my dad play his guitar or drums.
I know, she's one of the cutest babies in the world. This picture is a picture of her when she was a barely a one year old. Right now, she's a two-year old about to turn three. I love her to death like my other sister's, but everyone has that breaking point. Hopefully mine isn't anytime soon.

04 September 2013

Bad Day :(

Today was a stressful day. First of all, I woke up at five o'clock in the morning just to only lay in bed in the dark waiting for it to be seven. Of course, when you have two loud sisters that go to elementary school, you can never have a quiet morning. I, then, went to go get ready when my sisters left for school and finally got ready. I got to the school bus with all of my things at eight thirty. I was almost late. I had my school bag, my athletics clothes, my athletics shoes, my lunch, and a jacket in my hands. I know what you're thinking. "Oh my gosh! How can a person carry all that stuff in one tote bag." I could barely fit my clothes, school stuff, and half of my lunch. So, I had to hold the rest of my stuff in one hand. School was horrible. On the outside, I looked perfectly fine. Inside, I was so tired. I didn't feel like going to school. I guess you could say that I was kind of depressed today. I mean who wouldn't be when they feel like they went to sleep at two in the morning. My head hurt so much, but I had to look like I was okay. I hope tomorrow is better. Peace out!

02 September 2013

Last Day!!!

I am so tired and the bad part of it is that we only just had breakfast. I promise, I will be very impatient this week at school. This weekend, we were originally supposed to go to San Antonio, but of course we had to have company. This was supposed to be a relaxing weekend, but it's only made me even more stressed. I just want the house to be quiet and listen to my radio. That would be my ideal weekend. Just a couple of more hours before they leave. God, give me strength.

31 August 2013

The First Night

Today, was an interesting night. For dinner, we had fried fish, french fries, and homemade cole slaw. We ate in two different groups; the people under 18 years old and the elders. Making the food wasn't super hard. The hardest part of the night was actually serving the dinner. Making food for twelve people is nothing the same as serving for twelve people. For starters, there were a total of seven children in the house, all at different ages. By the time we all actually finished dinner, it was about nine. We either ate chocolate cake or lemon cake with cookies and cream, apple pie, or strawberry ice cream. My cousin's sister from Dallas came over and visited for a couple of hours. Getting everybody to bed was a harder task. First, we had to move the couch in the media room to fit the air mattress in the middle of the room. Then, we had to get to futon in the game room fixed for the boys. Then we finally got to bed. Today was a hard day, but the bad thing is that there's still two days left for their visit.

Meeting the Family

My family just came and I am shocked because they are nothing how I thought they were. My cousin, that I just met for the first time, looks almost nothing like her mom. The oldest boy looks exactly like his dad and the last two look like a boy version of their mom. I was a little scared about how they would be like. The youngest one is probably the cutest little boy that I've ever seen. I will make sure to post some pictures of them. Give me hope!
OMG! I am so sore from trying out for volleyball this week. It was a four-day tryout with a total of 80 girls trying out. My thighs and feet hurt so much from running and jumping this whole week. In the end I didn't make the team, but I'm okay with that. There's always next year to try out. Today, my aunt, cousin, and her family is coming. She has THREE boys. The oldest is 11 so this is going to be a rough weekend for me. I can't wait till school starts again, cause I don't really want them to come. The house only has a total of four people and there's already six people in my family. That adds up to twelve people. It is going to be a chaotic weekend. Wish me luck!

30 August 2013

The Wolverine

Today, my dad took my mom, sisters, and I to the movie theatre. We watched The Wolverine. It takes place in modern Japan where Wolverine reconnects with his old acquaintance, Yashida, and faces things that he's never faced before; both emotionally and physically pushed to the maximum. During this journey that will forever change his life, he meets Mariko and Yukio, both grand daughters of Yashida. I would recommend this movie to somebody who can watch movies that move slowly, but still have that little bit of action every now and then. I would rate this movie, from a 1-10 scale, a 5 because it started full of action and ended really dull.
